The verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd is an important step toward justice, but there is still so much more work to be done. No one should ever feel afraid because of the color of their skin or who they are, but that is still the reality for many of our colleagues, friends, families and community members. The ongoing violence rooted in prejudice and racism that we continue to experience in our cities and communities is a stark reminder of how far we still have to go to achieve equality and social justice. We cannot waver in our commitment to fight discrimination, hatred and violence. We must sustain our efforts to repair our social fabric and create more just and inclusive communities.
