On #GivingTuesday, Give to Charity and Create History
Started by the 92nd Street Y in New York City in 2012,
#GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of people, communities and organizations around the world with a common purpose of inspiring and encouraging giving. PayPal has been a lead supporter of the movement since the beginning and is teaming up today with #GivingTuesday partners globally to do something positive and historic – break a Guinness World Records™ title for giving.
We are aiming to raise more than $20 million in 24 hours to break a Guinness World Records™ title for the most money donated online for charity in 24-hours. The current record was set by $19 million that was raised to assist in relief efforts post the Tsunami that hit Asia in 2004. Donations made through PayPal on December 1st from midnight to 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time will contribute towards our effort to set a new record.
Donating has never been faster or easier or more transparent
. People can visit our
#GivingTuesday campaign page to choose a charity they wish to support and to join the community of donors who are jumping in collectively—to give.
As you know, innovations in payments technology have allowed consumers to amplify the impact of their donations with just a few keystrokes. We’re committed to making our user’s contributions
go even further this holiday season. PayPal is adding an extra 1% to all donations of $10 or above made through the PayPal Giving Fund in the US in December, meaning that receiving charities get 101% of donor contributions. To create broader social impact globally, we are expanding our 1% donation match program to eight countries – Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Mexico, Singapore, Spain and the UK. Click

More than 36 million people used PayPal last year to make online charitable contributions, raising $5.7 billion to benefit more than 418,000 charities. These extraordinary numbers show how digital payments have democratized and revolutionized giving in ways that are quantifiable in billions—not just millions.
Falling right after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is an important giving movement that PayPal is committed to honoring, celebrating and powering with our payments platform, and our support. We hope that this holiday season you join our movement and take this opportunity to give back to the causes and communities close to your heart.
