PayPal Adds Chief Compliance Officer to Executive Leadership Team
To be a global payments leader requires an extraordinary commitment to compliance and risk management. For PayPal fulfilling this commitment every day is of the highest priority and it is an essential part of who we are as company. That’s why over the past year, we’ve significantly increased our investments in risk and compliance excellence across our organization.

We do this both because it’s the right thing to do in a world where terrorism and cybercrime are on the rise -- and because we know that excellence in risk management and compliance is essential to our deep commitment to being a Customer Champion. The more advanced we become in these areas, the greater trust and confidence our customers and stakeholders have in PayPal.

As part of our ongoing focus on this critical part of our mission, we have created the new position of Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and I am pleased to announce that PayPal has hired Aaron Karczmer, a leading expert in compliance and financial intelligence to join our executive team and fill this role.

Aaron joins PayPal from American Express, where he spent nearly a decade serving in a variety of compliance roles, most recently as SVP, Deputy Chief Compliance Officer and Head of Global Financial Crimes Compliance. In this role, Aaron was responsible for overseeing the Global Financial Crimes Compliance, Enterprise Compliance Risk Management, and U.S. Card Compliance functions. During his time at AmEx, Aaron also managed a number of complex regulatory orders, and led the design and implementation of the Enterprise Compliance Risk Management Program, including policy and methodology frameworks, new technology, and organizational structure. Prior to American Express, Aaron held a number of roles at the New York County District Attorney’s office including Assistant District Attorney, and Unit Chief for the Identity Theft Unit. Aaron holds his Bachelors of Arts in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, and a Juris Doctorate from Stanford Law School.

Aaron will join PayPal in early May and report directly to me. Aaron will play a key role in driving our ongoing commitment to continually strengthening PayPal’s compliance organization and capabilities. He will lead an accomplished team of compliance professionals who are dedicated to ensuring PayPal consistently acts as a Customer Champion.

We are delighted to welcome Aaron to PayPal’s executive team.
