Powering Giving: PayPal at the Nonprofit Technology Conference

March, PayPal participated in the Nonprofit Technology Conference for the 9th year. Taking place in PayPal’s backyard in San Jose CA, the Nonprofit Technology Conference (NTEN) brings together over 2,000 nonprofit professionals from around the world for networking events, educational sessions and an exhibit hall featuring the latest technology products and services for nonprofit organizations. As a whole, the NTEN community seeks to harness the power of technology to make the world a better and more just place for all.

Alongside representatives from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Robin Dupont, Senior Manager of Client Relations for Social Innovation at PayPal, participated in a panel about the future of money and how customer preferences towards payments to nonprofits are changing. While more and more donors are moving towards mobile and online payments to support the causes they care about each year, traditional channels such as check and cash donations are still incredibly prevalent in the nonprofit space.

“As technology and digital payments continue to evolve, it’s important for nonprofits to keep up with the changes to consumer payment preferences” said Robin Dupont. “Not only does PayPal offer consumers an easy way to support the causes they’re passionate about, but we also provide charities access to new donors and tools to boost their fundraising efforts that can also help to reduce costs.”

The panel took a deeper dive into the various digital wallets and alternate payment types such as Samsung Pay, Apple Pay and even Bitcoin, showing how nonprofits both large and small can benefit from supporting these methods within their donation flows. Along with this, it’s important for nonprofits to recognize their unique audience and determine the best payment method to suit their specific preferences.

PayPal processed more than $6 billion for charities around the world in 2015, and billions more for schools, political campaigns and other nonprofits. As consumer preference towards digital payments continues to grow at a steady pace year over year, fundraisers and nonprofits around the world can benefit from processing these payments wherever they accept donations.
