Tap! Insert! Swipe! New PayPal Here Readers Help You Get Paid
As the retail experience evolves, consumers demand the flexibility to pay anywhere, any time, and any way they choose. As a champion of helping our business partners adapt to these changes, PayPal is also evolving our PayPal Here capabilities to make accepting payments more flexible and more convenient. Today, we are announcing two new PayPal Here card readers – the
Chip and Swipe reader and the
Chip and Tap reader. Both readers enable small businesses to easily accept chip card and card swipe transactions nearly anywhere. The Chip and Tap reader, which is available with a convenient charging stand, also supports contactless payment methods such as Apple Pay®, Google Pay™, Samsung Pay®, and any other NFC-enabled devices or payment cards.
For consumers, the shopping experience now moves seamlessly between online, mobile, and in-person experiences and PayPal Here lets businesses meet these consumers on their own terms, whether it is at an event, a craft fair, or in a storefront. The new PayPal Here readers help business owners provide this level of mobility and convenience without the need for clunky hardware or wires tying them down to a traditional point of sale terminal. The new readers are smaller than a deck of cards for easy portability, connect to mobile devices via Bluetooth, and include a rechargeable li-ion battery for long battery life. This makes it easy for business owners to accept payments nearly anywhere they might need to – quickly and securely.
We also understand the many challenges small businesses face – including protection from fraudulent transactions and the costs of equipment to run their business – and constantly work to develop products and services that allow them to thrive in an increasingly competitive environment. By introducing a two new, affordable EMV-compliant chip card readers, we are doing everything possible to make accepting card payments easier and more secure.
The new PayPal Here readers are available now for $24.99 for the Chip and Swipe reader and $59.99 for the Chip and Tap reader. Both readers work with the PayPal Here app -- available for free through the
Apple App Store and
Google Play store – and pair with your compatible smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. Additionally, we have updated our PayPal Here SDK to support these new devices and to make it easier than ever to build EMV-compliant credit card processing into other mobile POS platforms.
