Wences Casares Joins PayPal’s Board of Directors
Today I am thrilled to announce that Wences Casares is joining our Board of Directors. Wences has founded several successful technology and financial ventures in the U.S., South America and Europe including bitcoin wallet Xapo, Argentina’s first ISP, Brazilian retail bank Banco Lemon, mobile payments companies Bling Nation and Lemon Wallet, as well as Latin America’s premier online brokerage, Patagon. He also sits on the boards of directors of non-profit organizations Kiva and Endeavor.
We’ve entered a period of unprecedented disruption in payments and financial services driven by the mass adoption of mobile technology and the digitization of cash. Wences’ long and successful track record as international fintech entrepreneur with a focus on next-generation payment and crypto-currency is a perfect fit for PayPal at this time. His unique line of sight into the future of commerce is ideally aligned with PayPal’s vision of transforming the management and movement of money for people around the globe.
“I am honored to serve on the board of an iconic global company dedicated to driving the transformation of money on a global scale,” Wences said. “I look forward to working together with the PayPal board and leadership team to continue to deliver their compelling vision.”
Wences will serve on PayPal’s Compensation Committee, and is the ninth member of PayPal’s board.
His appointment was effective January 12, 2016.
