PayPal Encourages Back-to-School Shoppers to Give Back While Saving Online
2009 “Make It Count” Campaign Includes Cash-Back Deals, Great Offers from Top Retailers

SAN JOSE, Calif.--PayPal (NASDAQ:EBAY) today announced the launch of its “Make It Count” campaign, featuring great deals and special offers for budget conscious shoppers this back-to-school season. And, in an effort to support students in need, PayPal has also teamed up with DonorsChoose.org, the online charity that connects individual “citizen philanthropists” with classrooms in underserved urban and rural public schools.

When shoppers go to https://www.paypal.com/makeitcount and take advantage of the great deals offered by PayPal, they can choose to donate part of their savings to support more than 10,800 classroom projects aimed to benefit more than 271,000 students across the country.

“DonorsChoose.org is thrilled to be working with PayPal to unlock the power of their community, helping to improve our public schools one classroom at a time,” said Charles Best, CEO and founder of DonorsChoose. “We hope this exciting partnership will mobilize thousands of shoppers to help jumpstart public schools during the back-to-school season.”

In addition to raising donations through shoppers, PayPal has donated to ten DonorsChoose projects to help classrooms complete their goal of getting books and electronics for their classrooms.

Back-to-School Deals

Beginning July 9 through August 24, customers can receive up to 40 percent off purchases from major retailers, such as American Eagle Outfitters, Dell, JetBlue, Nike and Sears, as well as free shipping from select merchants for eligible purchases made through PayPal.

“Back-to-school shopping is one of the busiest times of the year for students eager to get the latest and greatest supplies, clothes and accessories for the fall,” said Beth Strobel, PayPal’s Personal Online Shopper. “By offering great deals from leading retailers while encouraging shoppers to donate to under-funded schools, PayPal wants to make shopping for school both a rewarding and affordable experience for parents and students alike.”

All eyes will be on back-to-school spending this year, as it is the early indicator of how consumers plan to shop during the holiday season. According to the National Retail Federation, back-to-school spending last year totaled $51.4 billion on apparel, shoes, electronics and other items for students.
