PayPal CEO Dan Schulman Reflects on George Floyd’s Legacy

Dan Schulman, President and CEO

May 25th, 2020 was a profound turning point for the United States, and around the globe, in which people from all walks of life joined together with an urgent and resounding demand for collective action against systemic racism.

Today marks one year since the murder of George Floyd. His death, and the series of tragic events that preceded it, helped to set into motion a national reckoning over generations of racial injustice that shamefully persists to this day. It became clear that all of us have an obligation to take a stand for what is right and to make a difference. For PayPal, it was a moment to learn and come together as a community — and to step up to do our part to address racial inequities and create lasting change.

While much work has been done to advance racial justice and equity, we continue to see acts of violence, hate and discrimination — reinforcing how critical it is to continue these efforts and the dialogue and healing they inspire. We honor George Floyd’s legacy, and the legacy of countless others whose lives have been lost, by reaffirming that Black lives matter and recommitting to the pursuit of progress, equality and justice.

The work continues.
